As econgal mentioned the U.S. Census Bureau is a great source of info (see link in sources). There is also a nice table at wikipedia showing the numbers well (second link in sources).

For a single person the level is $9,400. For each person in a family after that you add $3,400. Thus the $24,000 number cited in the other answer is actually for a family of 5.

There are over 48 defined poverty thresholds in our country. Family size is relevant, it differs from a single person vs. a family of 2 adults and one child, etc. The U.S. census bureau has a poverty page with is VERY informative if you are seriously interested in poverty info.
