I want to link up two cells, but the set-up is producing bad results. The individual series consist of two containers each with half-reactions. One is an aqueous reduction, and the other is a solid oxidation. My question is how do I link these up? I've tried hooking one's anode to the other's cathode, while using salt bridges between individual cells, but this has produced poor results. Please help!

When you say "poor results", I wonder if you are trying to get any current out of this set-up, or merely to measure the voltage? Salt bridges have a huge internal resistance, that effectively makes it impossible to draw any current.

Also, what do you mean by hooking up the anode and cathode? The only link should be via a high resistance voltmeter.
