My son and I are both really into playing that Crash Bandacuit Game for playstation ( I think it's part 2?) Anyway we have no trouble getting the purple crystals but have no idea how to get the enormous ones.

I know in the first Crash Bandicoot for the PlayStation the course Slippery Climb has a Red Gem. The qualifications for the red gem is to get perfect in the course. That would mean you would have to break all of the crates in the course. You can't miss a single one or you would not get the red gem. Some places have different colored gems and you might need some earlier gems or later gems in order to obtain the gems you need, but basically breaking all of the crates is the best way to get gems.
