first of all, if you are still under warranty, simply take it to the dealer. otherwise, read on...

the Xenon headlights consist of 4 components:

1. the Xenon HID bulbs
2. the projector lense/housing
3. the HID ballast
4. the HID ignitor

Any failure of components 1,3, and 4 can result in 'flickering' or failure to ignite the headlights. Any of these components can be replaced individually. One simple thing you can do is to swap the HID/Xenon bulb from one side to the other. If the problem follows the bulb, then you've narrowed the problem down to the bulb. You can also swap each of the above 1, 3, and 4 components from one side to the other to narrow down which component is failing, but that can be a little more involved.

HID/Xenon bulbs usually last a very, very long time. (over 10yrs) if you do need to replace a bulb, look to buy replacements in the aftermarket for D2S HID bulbs that will cost between $40-$70. The BMW dealers typically charge about $150 for the bulb.

Good luck!

There is something else wrong. Maybe the lens housing or the projector housing. Xenon lamps do not have a filament so the light will always be the same until they completely burn out. Take it to your dealer before you burn up your ballast and cost yourself a lot of money.

You may actually need a new car, when Xenon gas runs out, the lights can no longer be used, and as for replacing the bulb...forget about it.

You may need to dispose of the vehicle, may i suggest just asking a random black person- as I'm sure they will be able to make use of the car somewhere.

However, if it is lower than a 328i, you can keep it.

Lights only. 15 bucks, if that. Take your BMW book, it tells you the best brand.
