The end of the "world" will be caused by humanity getting into a war or something. The end of "earth" will be caused either by the sun expanding into a red giant, a black hole, or proton decay.

(the sun may or may not swallow up the earth- as it loses mass the earth's orbit will widen, and it may widen far enough to avoid being engulfed by the sun)

Nuclear weapons, biological war fare, and governmental aggression.

Men in power are the most irresponsible group ever. They think something can be contained without prior knowledge of probable consequences. When the scientists detonated the first atomic bomb they were not sure if the nuclear reaction could be contained but they did it anyway.

As for the end out our planet my bet is on a collision with another planetoids object. Were are still finding out there are many more planet type objects in space. We are still looking for a planet X that maybe in our planetary orbit around the sun but have a 3600 year cycle around the sun. If this does exist we don't know what the affects will be on our own planet including a possible collision course.

Hi. There are two ways to look at the question. The end of the planet or the end of humanity. Neither would survive a black hole encounter. But humanity is a much more fragile entity. Many things could stop US in our tracks.

By about the year 3500 the mass of the human population of the earth (at it's present rate of increase) will equal the mass of the earth. If that doesn't do it then, by the year 6200 (more or less) the mass of the population of humanity will equal the mass of the known universe.

Something HAS to give!!
