American reconstruction following the civil war. A country that had been ripped in two managed to heal itself and move forward. It was a rocky road, but they persevered and our nation still exists intact.

Nuclear Power.
No I would say concerning The Atomic Bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
This experience of massive human extermination has teached us that if we were going to use it today , it would be an irreversible catastrophe .
But at the same time the benefits of Nuclear energy , when well controlled , brings us the greatest hopes in many fields , as in the medical field for example.

Would be the great plague.This pestilence struck rich and poor alike.It is reckoned that habitation near ports lost nearly 30% of the population.London was a classic example as the city lost over 25% of her citizens.Until the great fire of London Which really was a blessing as it wiped out to a large extent the rats.Although fleas were the real cause,At that time no one knew this

The day we found a vaccine for polio.
This gives me hope that we can find a cure for Cancer and AIDS.

considering that we've been screwing up since day 1....not much really gives me hope for our future...we're nothing but selfish, hedonistic war-mongers....
