5. Its difficult to work when there is innadequate lighting
6. A lot of pests hide in the dark and avoid the light

They need light for a few reasons. One, presumably if a stable has good light it will also have good ventilation, which is an absolute must for any stable. Poor light not only reduces visibility which can create dangerous situations, it also encourages the growth of bacteria and molds... Both of which when abundant can be harmful when breathed into the lungs.
Lastly, good stable lighting and proper ventilation are simply a great key in keeping healthy horses.

Because in a stable they miss being outside in the sunshine -so plenty of light is the next best thing!

so the horses won't get all furry in the winter. Horses in the winter need at least 16 hours of light to not grow a huge winter coat.

Sunlight is necessary in the absorption of Vitamin D. Our bodies cannot process this without sunlight. Also, imagine yourself being locked in a room with no light day after day. You would probably become neurotic, and develop other mental and physical problems

Aside from general answers (safely, molt retardation, security, pests, etc...) light is commonly used to artificially adjust the hormone cycle of horses for reproductive purposes and to keep their hair coat short and shiny.
