Because they ARE jealous and insecure. They need to think about their little insanities and work through them. I didn't say it was easy, I said WORK.

I am a jealous person and a VERY insecure person. So to answer the Q would be because of the past relationships that I've had. I dont have any goals in my life so I basically just float on everybody around me. growing up too, my parents were the same way being jealous and insecure. I guess I've seen thing that no kid should. I have trust issues too, especially because of my parents relationships and adult friend relationships. I know in reality life is not always bad but it can get that way if you let it.

...because there is always a risk of loss.

loss of respect, loss of esteem, loss of love, loss of support, loss of desire, loss of any number of resources...

If you focus on those losses, or risks of losses, it's natural to try to guard against them. And it's a self perpetuating cycle.

For instance, you feel insecure. You interpret that your partner (or whoever) is somehow superior to you. This could result in loss. How do you elevate yourself?

Jealousy brings the partner down - "You're not as good as you think you are!" "You are sure letting yourself go." "What makes you think you have all the answers?" "How could you...?" "If you were half the person you think you are..."

Jealousy elevates the self with ego stroking methods - "[Name] thinks I'm hot!" "I don't need [partner]" "If s/he doesn't want me, there are plenty of people who do!" "I'm too good for this person anyway."

And sometimes this even results in attempts to CREATE jealousy - and the cycle continues.

Live well~

Because people are weak. It requires great inner strength, self-awareness, and mental stability not to feel this way.

This is human nature. When you don't have certain thing, you want to have it. When you had it, you scare of losing it.
