I have a university degree (that I feel lukewarm about), I have spent a year working privately with a career counsellour, and I still don't know what direction to take. It's causing me a lot of stress and anxiety. How do you know what you're supposed to do with yourself, and how do you know if it's THE thing that's for you?

The first thing is to not let your degree tie you down. Use it as a basis for what interests you in life. Second, get out in the world and start working. You will find many jobs and many people that either help you find what you want, or give you insight on what you don't want. Third, do not expect to find a perfect career just because you have a college degree. For many of us recent graduates, we find that the workforce is saturated with our kind, so don't be surprised to start on the bottom-the only direction is up! Don't stress, just act!

I've been going through the same thing. I tried MANY different career paths, but nothing struck me as THE one. I tried everything others said I would do well with, and believe me, it doesn't work. Finally, I realized I was looking at it backwards - I was looking for the job that sounded good, not the thing I do feel passionately about, that could be turned into a career. Look for the passion, not the career. I finally found mine when I searched in the right direction. Be patient, it takes time and alot of thought to find true passion. What are your hobbies? Your beliefs? Your personal talents?

What do you like to do? Pick one hobby you have and figure out how to make it a career. A volunteer job can also turn into a career if you really enjoy it. Look for one that close to your home. You could also enroll in a class to discover other interests you might have.

Life is like a buffett... you have to try different thngs until you find the ones you like. Start to experiment with classes, jobs, or better yet... is there anything you enjoy? Do what you love, as they say. Many people don't know what they want until they stumble into it.

What are your interests? If you like pets, you might consider become a vet's assistant. If you're more the nerdy type, you might consider going into something related to computers (They get paid well). Taking a vocational test might help.

Everything happens for a reason, so if you see something you like (other than drugs and pornography) get some more of it,

Inner happiness will tell you when you've found your purpose in life. And when this happens, believe me, you'll know it.
