Gasoline prices are not merely a function of crude oil prices. First there is a "crack spread". This is the margin required to crack crude oil into its constituent usuable products like gasoline (kerosene, diesel, heating oil, jet fuel, etc.). I will admit that crack spreads are unusually high right now. However, there are supply/demand factors that reflect tightness in refining capacity. And of course there is the long-term issue: no new refiners built since 1979. Then there is the cost of distribution. Gasoline isn't produced where it is consumed. Finally, there are taxes. About 1/3 of the cost of gasoline is government taxes.

I will also leave you with this thought. Since when is cheap gasoline a birthright? What is cheap gasoline? We have the most heavily subsidized gasoline in the world outside of OPEC nations.

Because you are still buying gas that cost a lot more than $57 a barrel. And believe me they are not going to lose a single cent as you and I already know. That is why the Govt. is investigating companies that as soon as the price goes up per barrel they up their prices. Gouging will start to dwindle a bit but not enough for us to notice. Peace out...............

The president has no longer one rattling issue to do with gas expenditures. Commodities fat-cats who hoard actually thousands of barrels of oil are what instruments oil expenditures. by the fashion, the Koch brothers, who fund the Tea get at the same time, are 2 of those fat-cats. So at the same time as you're blaming Obama, that's both adult men who're taking the respectable, lifelike and wise Republicans faraway from their get at the same time who're easily accountable. attempt turning off Fox information and easily figuring out on up a newspaper, you'd be shocked at what you study. Oh, and once you spell the president's call with a "0" like that's witty, you lose all moral severe floor including your argument. So possibly basically strengthen the hell up and take care of the particular undeniable actuality that your Republican get at the same time is useless on arrival.

Because gas station business is a great business. You can make serious profit in these volatile oil prices because you can get away without lowering prices as long as there is demand.
But when a station or two give in and lower prices the others will fall--they are just hanging on as long as they can enjoy these profits. Supply and demand and why capitalism works so well.

Because the oil companies can charge that. The only way to stop them is to buy electric cars so that they can't sell oil. Then they'll have to find a way to overcharge us for electricity.

Because the oil companies are thieves.

They claim it's because many refineries are shut down for maintenance, they claim it's because they're transitioning from the "winter blend" to the "summer blend". Bull....gas is gas.
