Dr. King's morals were based on Christian belief. I like him because he believed that God will punish those evil racists and we don't need to use violence to get our point across. I don't consider myself a christian because I've sinned in my life, but I try to follow the Christian beliefs. Many people forget that, Malcolm X, later on teamed with Dr. King and agreed with same beliefs as Dr.King about non-violence.

If you say you don't believe in God at all, you must dislike Dr.King because he believed that being gay is wrong (because he preached the christian bible) and other things people accept now are wrong, like violence, evil for evil, racism etc.

Actually Amy read your history Dr. Kings movement revolved around SCLC Southern Christian Leadership Conference which organized protest back in 1957. Dr. King led this. Besides I would consider Malcolm X and Dr. King prophet from God, because everything they did revolved around God, remember both men were preachers.

Amy, just because you are a philosopher dosen't make you a non-Godly person. You're forgeting that Dr. King led a christian organization. In the bible, are you saying that all of those prophets weren't intellegent. You must be intellegent to understand and interpret the bible correctly to others. You might think it is easy to interpret the bible, but if it was why do so many question it. My friends father is a professor of philosophy and a preacher.

Because they are crazy. How can you talk bad about all religions (that believe in God) but when it comes to Dr. King (who is Christian) you don't talk bad about him, even though his practices and beliefs are the same as what a christian should be. (Christians now will do any and everything, some so called Christians are gay.)

It's hard to find people nowadays that REALLY believe in the same morals that Dr.King did.

I also have a historic previous Paper I wrote approximately Dr. King in my Jr. 12 months of faculty. I gained a ninety 9, and my Prof. wrote, "great study!" on suited because of the fact I had study such distinctive books to place in writing a sturdy paper. each and every 12 months I take it out and study it aloud on the middle college right here on the city. The essay includes how I felt at 14 while Dr. King replace into shot, how my mom and father reacted and tried to describe it to me... an exceedingly political little female who enjoyed him very lots. This 12 months I exceedingly enjoyed the examining because of the fact it replace into the fortieth Anniversary. it rather is often so touching to work out how passionately the 'tweens' react. Then all of us mild candles and function white cupcakes with white frosting.

I say to you "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater." I don't believe in God at all, and I don't think there's anything wrong with being gay, but that doesn't mean I dislike Dr. King, it means there are a couple of points on which I disagree with him. He was a good man and a brilliant civil rights leader. He opened the eyes of this country like no one has before or since. Just because my views on certain things aren't his doesn't mean I can't admire what he accomplished.

God and Dr. King are two totally different beings, a person can not like one and love the other easily.
And Dr. King was a philosopher first off, but he became famous when he became an activist. People who are not Christian like him because of his logic.
-------EDIT--------
History books lie- I think we all know that, I got this information from his daughter herself; Bernice King. She said her father was a philosopher, and if you read HIS work you can clearly see that. She came to my school and told us herself. And duh, I know he was a preacher, I mean who doesn't? That's just the point she was making, people fail to acknowledge the work he did outside being an activist.
--------EDIT AGAIN------------
Oh, the website just shows proof that she came to my school. And I really don't care if you're a scientist or if you believe in God. I would not have known if you didn't tell me nor would I have cared. Your information is not entirely correct... that's all I was trying to point out. And letting you know that GOD and Dr. King are two seperate beings, and its easy for somebody to love one and hate the other. That's why people who are not christian can love him, because of his logic even if it does spin off of christian morals.

I am not a Christian and I like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because he believed what he said and he said some very good things. I march every year I can in our local MLK parade.

It is possible to agree with some of MLK's morals; it is not required that one believe in ALL his morals in order to "like" him or gain some valuable inspiration or direction from him.
It's not possible to agree with every single thing a political or social leader believes in. We are all different.

I think much of what MLK taught was valuable christian or not. I m not a huge fan of MLK, I agree more with malcom x (in his later years). He did start to see things more MLK's way, but for some reason Malcom just seemed closer to the struggle.

He also cheated on his wife. He, being human, had some serious flaws (& athiest would consider his Christianity a flaw). But his strengths were so strong, they far overshadowed his flaws.

He was a great man.
