Right now the government is supported by the USA and the west, with support from the more moderate elements in the region. The country is half Christian, so it's a tricky proposition with the surrounding muslim nations. Pretty much no one wants the place to fall into anarchy again.
Syria is trying hard to make it a puppet state through it's agents. And Iran is trying to ferment another Shi'a revolution there.
