Okay! before anyone gets all crazy at me I'd just like to mention something: I appreciate anyone who can play golf well. I'd also like to clarify something: Since most sports involve a lot of physical activity, shouldn't golfing be considered a "lesser" sport because you don't really have to ever increase your pulse or breathing rate or anything except get in a cart and ride from one area to another where you hit a ball? I don't mean to offend anyone but I probably did...

Get in a cart? Have you EVER seen Tiger Woods in a cart? I don't think so.
So golf isn't physical enough for you? Check out the physical regimens of Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh. I think most "athletes" would fall over trying to keep up.
If you break golf down into it's separate components, you have many sports blended into one.
You have the aim of an archer, the arm motion of a hockey player crossed with the grace of a gymnast, the consistant, fluid motion of a bowler, all while taking a 3 mile hike.
You don't think a golfer's heartrate increases? Try putting for a million dollars, and we'll see where your pulse rate is.
Sports are about competition, not just physical activity. Golf keeps score, just like most other sports. The person who finishes taking the fewest strokes wins.
I'll close with some trueisms about golf:
Golf is an honorable game, played by honorable people that usually doesn't need a referee.
Golfers don't have some of their players in jail every week.
Golfers don't kick dirt on, throw bottles at, or charge into the stands of spectators.
Professional Golfers are paid in direct proportion to how well they play.
Golfers don't hold out for more money, or demand new contracts because of another player's deal.
Professional Golfers don't insist that the taxpayers pay for the courses on which they play.
When golfers make a mistake, there is nobody there to cover for them or back them up.
The PGA raises more money for charity in one year than the NFL does in two.
You can watch Professional Golfers at any event for about $25-$30. A Super Bowl ticket will cost you at least 10 times that amount, and you won't be anywhere as close as you are to the golfers.
In Golf, you can't fail 70% of the time and get paid $9 million a year, like baseball players batting .300
Golf doesn't change it's rules to attract fans. Players must adapt to different course conditions every week.
Golfers keep their clothes on when they're being interviewed.
Golf has never heard of "free agency".
You can hear birds singing on a golf course during a tourney... not the steady stream of vulgar language associated with most other "Professional" sports.
Tiger Woods hits a golf ball twice as far as Barry Bonds hits a base ball.
Golf Courses don't ruin neighborhoods.

Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
That means that almost any game, regardless of amount of physical activity, can be considered a sport. Even chess is a sport, if you want to get technical.

Golf is certainly a sport. It exercises the brain and Muscles. Darts and Pool are a sport and in some circles people call Poker a sport because it exercises the mind.

Yes it is still a sport. As sport can be one that increases your pulse rate, but it doesn't have to be. All a sport has to be is an activity that uses a certain amount of skill.
