I have been on Desogen birth control for a month and a half now and I have had my first normal cycle. However, I am going on vacation in two weeks and it just so happens my period comes the day we leave, but a friend told me I could "skip" my period for this month by not taking the green "placebo" pills when I'm supposed to and just start a new pack. I was wondering if this is safe and if anyone has ever done it. Advice please!!

A phone call to your doctor will answer this question. I'd hate for someone to give you some bad advice and then you get pregnant. The doctor will not charge you for the call. Just ask to speak with the nurse and they will take it from there. Good luck.

I did this for a trip to Europe. You can skip the placebos. My doctor even suggested it, so I could be period free during my three week trip. Just remember as soon as you get home you do need to start those placebos so you get your period. You may be spot if you skip, but if the pills are strong enough, they should hold it off. Don't skip the entire month. Just put if off until your vacation is over.

I have at the advice of my doctor trying to stabilize my hormones, however, I bled through my third pack(she wanted me to take my bc continuously for 3 months and then have a period the fourth) I bled for 20+ days and had to stop taking the birth control. I tried it again and bled through only after taking 2 packs in a row.

Honestly, I would just call your doctor and talk to a nurse over the phone. You can have break through bleeding the first time you do it -however, you shouldn't bleed through like I did. Some women's body can't handle the much estrogen at a time - like mine. I would just suggest talking to your doctor about if just to make sure.

That doesn't really work! Yes, the placebo pills are there as when you are "supposed" to have your period. But also so that YOU do not get out of the habit of taking pills. I do not suggest it. You can have sex on your period and go swimming. I've done both.

I wouldn't skip any pills, the green pills are just your reminder pills. They contain no hormones. If you just went straight to the nest pack you could mess up your body. There are pills out there that allow you to only have 3 or 4 periods a year. You will just have to deal with it.

well, it depends if the pill you are taking is monophasic pill meaning you have steady release of hormones through out the cycle. in monophasic pills (and also using nuva ring) you can continuously take the hormone pills and skip the placebo pills or in case of using 21-day pill skipping the 7 day break.

yes that will work just fine, or you could just stop them now, start your period & start your new pack after 7 days. Be cautious with the second choice though. This sudden stop may cause you to ovulate.

Call and check with your OB/GYN. I had this happen to me some years ago and my GYN gave me some other pills to take for 30 days.
