in the good ol days mercedes was one of the best cars around, it was also the first... now with so many lower quality cars, and their higher quality cars have so many problems... BMW is a better car now, status and quality wise, also those bad christmas mercedes commercials make me sick... o by the way i own a mercedes. so thats saying something

yes they are if you go back to the beginning of the Mercedes ,and the beginning of BMW ,Mercedes has been around a lot longer,they all have problems but Mercedes has worked through a lot of problems and still maintained a good vehicle in the process,BMW is a good vehicle,but not as classy as a Mercedes is, i own a repair shop,and have got to work on both types of vehicles,a BMW is not as well built as a Mercedes is,good luck,i hope this helps.

In general opinion or in practicality? Mercedes are much more reliable and cheaper to maintain, which makes them a much smarter buy however it seems like people relate BMW more with "bling". Smart people drive Toyotas though, lol. (I have an Acura).

I love Beemers, but if you get into the Maybach series with Mercedes, then its a higher class.
