The idea is to create a suitable environment for the red zerbra and its tankmates with little or no issues. Adding incompatible fish such as pirahna or puffers is just plain irresponsible. Here's how to solve your problem:

Firstly, you need 55gal minimum to adequately keep red zebras (metriaclima estherae). Anything smaller and you're going to see heightened aggression.

Secondly, red zebras are best kept with other african cichlids (specifically other lake malawi mbuna species). If kept with puffers or tropical community fish, red zebras will wreak havoc, especially a hyperdominant 6-inch red zebra male.

Thirdly, mbuna's such as red zebras do best in well sized groups, ideally one male per 3 females per species (for example a 55gal with 10-15 various mbuna's, 2-3 males, the remainder being female). The red zebra will probably remain the most dominant fish in the tank but won't be as much of a 'bully' (though typically when keeping mbuna you want to add the most aggressive species last, not first). When kept in small numbers, red zebras will make sincere efforts to dominate the entire tank.

If you are able to meet ALL three of the above criteria you will have less aggression issues. Meeting 0 to 2 of the above criteria will enable your red zebra to continue smashing everything in the tank.

I extremely have a 10 gallon tank and that i understand which you in effortless terms choose 1in of fish in step with gallon so in case you like extra, then go small. I extremely have all guppies basically diverse types to characteristic extra shade.... i additionally understand you shouldnt shop guppies with tetras..... however the zebra ones tend to "glow" so those are severe high quality too yet Im unsure in the event that they blend nicely with guppies :) BTW 10 gallon tanks are the toughest to maintain up with impressive.... i understand the water is the main important ingredient that isn't right. sturdy success!

I would put in other Pseudotropheus species of a similar size. Most have the toughness to hold their own with him.
