I personally would make my child wait until he/she was 18. My reasoning for this is that I do not want them to do anything they may regret as the get older, they are able to make those dicisions when they are of age. I am not against tattoos I actually have a few myself, all of which I got after I turned 18.

I would be open to ear piercing for under 18. I would be against tatooing or other body piercing before 18. Piercings don't have to be permanent and the holes can close. I just think with a little maturity people may not do a lot of things they would do at a younger age, so it's best to wait. I myself waited till I was 57 to get my nose pierced. Tatoo's are very personal and I think a lot of thought should go into what you will be having drawn on your body. What you might think you love at 16 may have no meaning to you 5 or 10 years from now....

Well I think that this depends on several things......1) how old is the child....if like 16 ALMOST 17 (and I mean like in a couple of months).......2) How long has the child been talking about said tattoo or piercing because I can guarantee that if it has been longer than like 4 or 5 months than you can bet that the minute that they turn 18 they will get what they want.......3) and DO NOT back down on this if they want it they pay for it....let it be their mistake (I still don't regret mine though).

I am against it for under 18- with the exception of a couple of ear piercings my daughter has. Just regular earring type.
There is always time after they are 18 and I just think the tatoos are so permanet that they should wait until they can afford it and are mature enough to make that decision that they will have to live with forever. Piercings I just don't like but if they pay for them, what can I say? My son had a couple and I hated them, but he didn't live at home so my opinion doesn''t count. He doesn't have them now, 4 yrs later. Of course his teeth are messed up because of a stud bleow his lower lip.
Good luck but make sure that you are comfortable with the decision and hold your ground. There is always time later for their "expressing themselves".

Tattoos are out, but piercing is okay. My daughter had her belly button done, but, nothing that can't be covered in a professional setting. No eyebrows, no lip, no nose, or tongue. I have tattoos, all that can be covered if I have to. As far as your kids getting tattooed. I feel they should wait until they understand that they are permanent, and if you want to remove it, you better be able to pay for it on your own.. I waited until my 30th birthday for my first tattoo, and I was 33 when I pierced my belly button... Explain the dangers of letting a friend pierce anything for you, and HOME tattoo parties are not a safe place to get a tattoo, there is no way to make sure that everything is sterile.... Good Luck with this one.

I'm not a parent yet. But for a teenager, a piercing can really help them feel different and express themselves. Try to contain piercings to the ears and places that don't have noticeable scars. If the child seriously wants the piercing and you know they will take care of it, it seems fine to me.
Tattoos, on the other hand, are there forever. A tattoo should take years to pick out and really be sure of, because you're stuck with it forever. Piercing can be removed easily.

Although I am not a parent ( i am a teenager), i am answering your question. I think 1 or 2 ear piercings in each ear is okay, but tattoos are just ew. If your child recieves the magazine 17, then look at the article about tattoos from one of the recent issues. April 2007 issue

Piercing Maybe but I would make them research the pros and cons and discuss it with them in a civilized manner (piercings can be taken out) Tattoos no way not until they are of age because they are permanent and most kids don't know exactly what they will like in 10-20 yrs from now

Body piercing? Im not really a fan of it. Well, as long as 1 or 2 should be fine...but too much...are ugly...
Tattoo? I'm okay with it i guess because i have one myself....but if its too much then it doesnt look appealing to me...
But then, you know! Even if i say my kids have to be over 18 to get piercing/tattoo...its totally up to them..cuz you know as far as tattoo you can always hide them somewhere in your body and as well as piercing too...you ghotta be open to your kids about this kinda situation and let them know what would be your rules about having tattoos/piercing...cuz if you tell them in an angry way...they would probably do it and hide it from you...you can talk to them nicely about it...that way they wouldn't be all scared of you if ever they'll get tattoos/piercing.

I would not let my child get a tattoo, unless they are old enough to do this on their own. It is permenant and they may regret it later on in life. Body piercing again should only be done, if the kid is old enough to get it done on their own. Too many kids are walking around with piercings in weird places. This makes it difficult for them to find employment. The risk for infection is also there, if they are not responsible enough to take care of them.
