It seems to me that throughout a school-life Yahoo Answers can be used to crib, copy and plagiarise assignments, dissertations and the like. What is your view? Is Yahoo Answers a disincentive to creative thinking and a tool for plagiarism?

Students are not forced to use it - the ones that would be creative and think things through will do so, they are the ones who have ambition and will do better in life. The ones who come here don't gain anything from coming here except the ability to hand in their homework the next day.

No one's forcing them to come online and have someone do their homework for them.

It is a tool for plagiarism, but there are better ones out there, sites where you can buy an entire paper, or copy entire passages from sites.

Ultimately, it comes down to the choice of the student. Either they are going to be individually moral and honest and do their own work, in which case they will learn the material, or they will try to find shortcuts and take the easy way out. Sadly, no one will take the test for these second group, and that's where they will realize why they should have done their homework.

For kids who use it to complete school work, yes. For people who want to discuss thought provoking concepts, no.
