Right click on the unused icon with the mouse then select delete button. You can also delete the unused icon by selecting it and then pressing the delete button on the keyboard.

Just right click on the icon, a menu will appear, choose Delete. Periodically Windows XP will launch a clean up wizard saying there are unused icons on your desktop do you want the program to clean it up. Chow

Click on the Icon and open the program, File..... Save as..... do not click on Desk top or it makes the Icon apear there. Save as a My Document This will save it in a different place
Click drag drop into the recycle bin, Right click on the Bin and empty bin. this will delete the document

most can be dragged over to the trash can and dumped - or you can right click on them and select delete - still others you must remove the software just make sure you want to do that and some windows Icons won't go away.

Alternatively if you may use them in future, make a folder (right click desktop->new->folder) called "Icons" and just drag them into there. Then it's only one icon and you can get them back at any time

Right click and delete! or you can click and drag the icon over the 'Recycle Bin' icon! Then right click on the 'Recycle Bin' icon and click on 'remove all items'!

you need ti right click the desktop and select properties and then select desktop tab and click the customize desktop button
Then press button ' Clean Desktop Now' and then follow the desktop clean wizard
