the eqaution is: Fe+3 + SCN-1 = Fe(SCN)3(solid)

the question asks: What direction will the addition of KCl(solid) drive the equilibrium?

my question: i don't get it because KCL is not even in the equation so I do know where it would go???

Sometimes when that type of question is asked it is because there is a side reaction. In this case there is not. The potassium ion is always soluble and iron (III) chloride is soluble as well. The reaction will not shift at all.

If they throw in a hydoxide it will shift to the right because it will be removing Fe+3 from the expression as it forms Fe(OH)3
