Volcanic ash is used as an abrasive for cleaning and polishing because of its fineness and hardness. One product that uses it is Old Dutch Cleaner

Volcanic ash or pumicite is used in ceramics, also. It is used as part of not only the ceramics but also the ceramic glazes.

And it's used in concrete

Obsidian comes to my mind first off. It was originally used for stone tools, arrowheads and the like. Today, obsidian is the only material that can perform micro-surgery. It is far sharper than synthetic material. I just know this because Im a geologist, but the wikipedia page below will tell you the same thing.

Pumice for sure as an abrasive. But I have also seen old (200 year old) buildings in which very porous lava was used for insulation. In that area, cheap. And, being very porous, light and full of insulating air pockets.
