Hey everyone,
I'm looking into being a guinea pig mommy again, after my piggy died a couple of years ago..only this time i'd like to get two, because I think my other one was lonely by himself. However, space is a bit of an issue, so i was wondering if anyone can recommend to me a small breed of guinea pig?? the one i had before was monstrously large, a peruvian/abbysinain blend.

I have a guinea pig rescue (20 pigs) and I can honestly tell you that all guinea pigs are between 2 and 3 1/2 pounds at full size, regardless of the breed. Please get a guinea pig from a local rescue or shelter. The pet store pigs tend to have health issues and the females are often pregnant. I don't know much about guinea pigs but what I can help you with is a cage company. Martin cages sells great cages at lower prices than the stores do. I got my rat cage from them. It has 2 full levels and 2 balconies and it stands about 3 feet tall for about $100.00. It is built really well and very easy to clean. I don't remember the website but you can google Martin Cages and I'm sure it will come up.

Female guinea pigs are much smaller than males, but i have researched and there is no smaller breed! hope this helped!

All breeds of guinea pigs are the same size.However,americans are easiest to care for.

i don;t know about a small breed of guinea pig, but i have a small dwarf hamster. She is so cuddly. She hardly bites, and i almost never need to change her cage bedding.
