If we were fighting World War II today, we'd certainly have lost the battle at home. The media would be screaming about us getting involved in a war halfway around the world with a country that didn't attack us, not to mention the huge casualties.

We've sustained somewhere around 3,200 casualties in Iraq, and that's including all servicemen and women killed in non-battle related incidents such as training or traffic accidents.

During the same length of time, we lost over 400,000 in World War II.

I'd like to think that if FDR was allowed to stay in office (and the media would be calling for his impeachment, of course), we'd still have won the war, though.

Yes. The Omaha landing was a matter of numbers and nothing else. It probably wasn't even the best places to land but was close to a launch point and supply that was required for an invasion that size.
There were media there. Everything was there.
