I think that "The Grapes of Wrath" would be one of the most classics. Check it out and see for yourself. Maybe others will agree with me.

Not sure what you mean by "social cognition". Crash is a great film about social consciousness and bigotry. Also Do The Right Thing or Ragtime are great films about how prejudice can really mess you up, regardless of your race.
Also, check out Michael Douglas in Falling Down.
