i found it in the tip jar today and its kinda shiny, it has a different back than the newer pennies. is it collectable or anything?

i would think of it as a collectable this coin is called a wheat cent they were designed by Victor B. Brenner they were minted from 1909-1958 . the 1953 wheat cent had a mintage of 256,755,000 your penny's value is about 15 cents i hope this information helps

Sorry it is a common wheat cent and in normal circulated grades is worth 2 to 5 cents. They are usually found in a dealers wheat cent bin for that price. It is nice to see that some wheat cents are still out there to be found and make some one ask about them. Maybe it will make you look more at cents and you will find one still older, good luck.

It has more minerals like copper or silver or whatever pennies were made from back then. That's why there's inflation.
