Sounds like it's junk material to me. I've had things get caught up underneath the agitator, causing the symtoms you suggest. But if you don't find anything like that, trash it and get a new one.

it truly is in all possibility a powerful sign so which you may purchase a clean washing gadget. I comprehend you wanting to restoration some thing like this, however the greater moderen washers are a dramatic progression over a 1996 sort. They use much less water, they are quicker and quieter. i think of on a 1996 sort, it truly is a beltpersistent gadget, so the belt might have snapped. you may could open up the returned or backside to confirm what makes it spin. no rely if it truly is a broken belt, nicely, it could't be truly common to change. might could take each little thing off so as to try this. uncertain it would be nicely worth it. you may restoration thepersistent gadget and then have some thing else break.. yet in step with possibility you restoration it and not something is going incorrect for 5 greater years. I in simple terms comprehend what i might do, and that's purchase a clean one, or look interior the classifieds or craigslist and purchase a million-2 12 months previous gadget for a million/3 the fee of recent.

The timer is the most likely culprit. It is the selection knob and the box behind it that tell everything what do when. They are not very expensive, you just need the name and the model number of the machine. I don't think you'd need the serial number but if it is handy get it just in case. Be sure to unplug the washer form the electricity before you start. They are not very hard to replace just watch what wires went where as you take the old one out and put the new one back the same way.

Sounds like a double problem. A bad timer could be the problem with the wash cycle stopping or the door switch and the water leaking underneath could be a leaking hose or pump housing.

My best guess is that a hose came lose. Maybe you have a sock stuck in it. If you are physically able to move it around you can take a look. But be sure to unplug it and mop up the water so you don't get electrocuted.

if you cant replace it you will be able to tell the repairman whats wrong and he could give you an estimate
