emo is a sterotype, and losers use, sterotypes, so for your own sake, just ignore it.

Like some other people said, emo really stands for emotive hardcore which is a genre of music. I like some of the bands that you like, I wear Converse too, and I get labeled emo all the time, and it bugs me, because I'm not emo. If you get to know me I usually have an attitude that is better than other people's.

Other people can call you emo all they want, but it's up to you if you accept that label or not. You shouldn't give in and say you're emo (but that's totally up to you) because you should just be yourself and you shouldn't care about what it fits in with or what label it goes with.

well um, the black nail polish is a little gothic I think. But alot of people like black and wear converse.

Oh yeah, and alot of those bands are categorized as "emo" bands, but alot aren't.

red hot chili peppers
blink 182
The Killers
Weezer
Coldplay
The Fray
Yellowcard
Maroon 5

are NOT emo at all. I listen to most of those bands, and I'm not even the slightest bit emo. Tell your friends they should find something better to spend their time on, other than categorizing you based on stupid things.

I'm sorry but yes. Diagnosis states you have 2nd degree emoism. But don't worry! Stop wearing black nail polish , put your hair back to normal if you dyed it , and stop wearing converse and you can take it down to a first degree

This emo is NOT referring to the music style but that is where the term stems from. They're basically whiny little kids who can't take a break-up when some people in third-world countries are living with 3 different terminal diseases and they can still put on a smile.

Some people might say yes, but cutting yourself just means that you're a "cutter". This problem is more widespread then people think among the general public, although it is popularly associated with sub-cultures such as goth and more recently emo.

Emo- an EMOtionally unstable person. Usually one that cuts them self.

Unless it's just the style, tight pants tight shirts, black WHOLE lot of bracelets, hair in parted to the front and the side of the face, so that you can only see out of one eye.

If this is you.... then you might be going "emo".
But IF you are try to lay off the cutting of your self please :)

Emo is a somewhat ambiguous, controversial slang term most frequently used to describe a fashion or subculture which is usually defined to have roots in punk fashion and subculture, as well as some attributes of gothic fashion and subculture.

The term emo originated in the 1980s to describe a genre of music stemming from the hardcore punk music scene in Washington, D.C. Early bands labeled emo (or sometimes emocore) in this scene included Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Fugazi.[2][4][5] The term emo as a music genre has become broader and broader with time, and now is loosely understood to mean "rock music with emotionally-based lyrics or effect." Bands included in the genre range from Bright Eyes to The Get Up Kids to Sunny Day Real Estate. The term is so loosely defined because its definition is still the subject of debate.[1][2][4] Emo now often refers to a person's fashion, personality, or both, as well as the music genre.

Emo fashion is usually defined to have roots in punk fashion as well as gothic fashion.[3] By almost all current definitions, emo clothing is characterized by tight jeans on males and females alike, long fringe (bangs) often brushed to one side of the face, dyed black hair, tight t-shirts which often bear the names of rock bands, studded belts, belt buckles, Chuck Taylor All-Stars or other black shoes - often old and beaten up - and thick, black-rimmed glasses.[1][2][6][7][8][9] Emo fashion has changed with time; early trends included haircuts similar to those worn by the Romulans and Vulcans in Star Trek, tightly fitting sweaters, button-down shirts, and work jackets (often called gas station jackets). This has fallen out of fashion nowadays.[6]

When referring to a person's personality and attitude, most definitions of emo hold that an "emo person" is candid about their emotions, sensitive, shy, introverted, broken-hearted, glum, and often quiet.[7][10] Emo personality is also often connected with writing poetry, which addresses confusion, depression, loneliness, and anger, all resulting from the world's inability to understand the author.[3] Emo poetry uses a combination of any of: a highly emotional tone, stream of consciousness writing, a simple (ABAB) or nonexistent rhyme scheme, references to the flesh, especially the heart, heavy use of dark or depressing adjectives, concern over the mutability of time and/or love, and disregard for punctuation, grammar, and/or spelling. Themes such as life is pain are common.
