I am a girl-scout leader at a Boston area school, and for our end of the year trip I am bringing the kids to Salem, Mass. They are 4th and 5th grade, and I myself have never been. What things would you recommend to do with the girls dring this day trip, that they will both like, and is on the cheaper side.

Salem for me was a letdown but at least I can say I was there once just to see it. Some things are interesting like the Witch House where the judge lived at. Also, I bet your girls saw the movie "Hocus Pocus", a Disney movie with Bette Midler. There is a house right down the street from the Witch House where a portion of the movie was filmed. I thought that was interesting as I loved this movie growing up and recognized the house as soon as I saw it. There is the Witch Dungeon but that might be too intense for them. The House of Seven Gables is nice. Oh, the trolley does a nice tour also. It keeps you from walking everywhere and they show you all the highlights. You can buy a pass and jump on and off all day long.

salem is such a wonderful town. At one point the mayor was a self proclaimed witch. You definately have to tour the witching museum. Salem was the site of the witch trials in colonial america in the late 1600s. My absolute favorite place was Nathaniel Hawthorne's house of seven gables.

there is tons of history in the town.

Check out the link below for some ideas. Be aware, however, that many of these places are closed during the winter. I'd definitely call ahead to make arrangements.
