how did you do it

after smoking for 30 years and at a point where I was smoking 4 to 4 1/2 packs a day I quit cold turkey on Labor Day weekend of 1990. Still a non smoker today. Never have I slipped and don't intend to ever.

First off l read an article that helped me determine what type of addiction l had.

If you get up 1st thing in the morning and have to light up, you have a chemical addiction. You may need to have help by using a patch system or gum.

If you can be up for hours without lighting up, you have a psychological addiction. For this you need a strong support system and something to replace the butt in your mouth. This was my addiction. I used sunflower seeds and chewing gum(regular not nicotine) drinking straws, lollipops just anything to keep my mouth and hands busy.

This will be 17 years this year so l think it is a success. l long ago lost the need to nurse the habit and have not needed anything anymore.

If you look at the cigarette and try to imagine that you can speak to it. Who is stronger? You with a brain and the absolute top of the food chain or this inanimate object that has no meaning, no soul, no purpose and is of absolutely no use for anything!

Good Luck in your endeavor

Yes, I never had a problem with it I smoked for only two years though and then decided to quit and I don't do it anymore. I think the fact that you cant quit is psychological and not physical and there are probably are too many smokers in your immediate area that are not helping you to stop? (just a thought)
However I wont lie I still smoke just not tobacco so maybe that's how I done it?

Cold Turkey and a strong support system of people who won't give you cigarrettes when you crave them once in a while which makes you go back. It takes an average person about seven tries before they actually quit. But Will Power is the most important thing. IF you really do want to quit, cold turkey isn't as bad as people say it is. Good luck

I started on the patch. but i was allergic to them and had to give them up. I have will power and refused to start smoking again. I also did a lot of exercising, walking and and running. It has been over nine years since my last cigarette. Give up smoking. You can do it.

As a former smoker, I can tell you that stopping cold turkey is the best way. It is very had , but stick with it. don,t use any drugs, there could be ad side affets. also look out, you will gain some weight.

Been there done that.

I spent years trying to give up smoking(i've smoked since early teens) and spent alot of money on expensive 'tools' to kick the habit i finally gave up at the age of 31.
The only way i can explain to you as to when you will give them up is to tell you- you will give up the fags when you are ready inside you to give them up.I tried for years years to pack them in, mostly on otheir peoples requests until one week i decided i wanted to give them up for 'myself' and i made a promise to myself i would never hold another butt in my hand for the rest of my life.
Due to past experiences of trying to kick them i decided never to say to anyone that i had finnaly 'beat them' until i was one full year off them.
You will succeed when you are ready inside you,but not until that day.
I'll not say good luck, because you'll not need it when the time comes.
