Well if you are talking about the best athlete who is the most dominant at his position you have to go with Joe Thomas hands down. He is by far the best OL and the next best isnt even comparable to Thomas. Jamarcus Russel and Brady Quinn are out because there are plenty of QB's in this years draft. Calvin Johnson is great WR but he is still just a raw talent with great size. You have to go with Joe Thomas because he is absolutly dominant at his position and he is still only going to get better. If you dont take him the pickings are slim for an OT. Putting him on your roster will not only improve your run game but make your QB look even better, i would like to see how Charlie Frye or John Kitna play with Thomas protecting them.
Calvin Johnson is a close second because of his amazing abilities and great size.
Jamarcus and Brady are just slightly better than usual QB's in a year where alot of teams are looking for a new QB so there abilities are blown a little out of proportion last years selection of QB's Vince Young (a version of Russel that is 10X better) and Matt Leinart (a version of Quinn that is 10X better) was far superior to this years.

It depends on what you mean by best 1st round draft pick. If you mean immediate impact, I would guess someone like an adrian peterson.
If you mean who is the best player that will be picked in the first round, then I'd go with Calvin Johnson.
If you mean the player that has the best upside/most potential, I'd have to say the Okaye kid for Louisville, who is only 19.
I'd also like to think that most sure thing in this draft is the Ofensive Tackle, Johnson (?) from Wisconsin. He looks really nice.

calvin johnson is the most talented possible pick to come to the draft. He's 6-5 (HUGE), and runs a 4.35 40. That's really fast for a big guy like him. His college film highlights (I'm pretty sure you can catch them on youtube), are simply amazing. His vertical jump, speed, and catching abilities make him impossible to defend.
In fact, he's one of the few receivers ever projected to have a huge impact rookie season at WR. I've heard that 70 catches-10 TD is not out of the question for this kid. He's going to be a dominant kid for a long time in the NFL.

if you go back through some of the last NFL drafts at this link
http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/ones
http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/twos
it becomes pretty clear that there is no way to tell. only speculation. these are links to every single number one and number 2 draft pick of all time. you can actually look at round by round picks for almost every NFL draft ever. and it pretty funny some of the people who drafted before others. but they were all drafted where they were for a reason.

Russell by far Quinn is a joke ,Russell is a man beast he has size, speed, and a huge arm he will give whoever picks him a whole new dimension to add to the team,Quinn however could not win a bowl game or beat a team like USC or Michigan so i would stay away from him hes a proven loser

it would definately be brady quinn. im a notre dame fan and watched quinn all season last year, including the two comebacks he had. everybody is picking russell because of his preformance in the sugar bowl. quinn has been at least twice as good as russel in his career. and oakland needs a qb. also, since oakland is going to be behind in a lot of their games, brady quinn's comeback ability would be an absolute blessing. and with randy moss (if he stays on the team) brady will be a guy that knows how to get the ball to his best reciever.

Russell because Oakland really need a QB and drafting one will buy the raiders officials time in producing a good team.

I think it'll be Calvin Johnson DEPENDING on where he goes. If he goes to a team that is lacking anyone at the reciever spot...he'll do great. Other than that, I'd say Brady Quinn has a shot, even though I think Johnson is overall better.
