Anthony Nesty was the first black swimmer to win an Olympic Gold Medal in swimming. He won the 100 Fly in 1988. He was/is a good swimmer.
Maritza Correia won Silver in 2004. There are many other highly recognized and decorated BLACK swimmers.
The movie PRIDE tells the story of PDR swimmers from the 70's. So suffice it to say swimming has little to do with the color of your skin.
Swimming also has very little to do with socio-economic situations as alluded to in other answers. The rivers, lakes, and oceans of the world are free water where people swim, learn to swim and compete. Golf is a game affected by socio-economics, but swimming is not.

Not at all. I know several good swimmers who are black. (I'm on a swim team.) It may make a difference that black people typically have more muscle mass than other races and muscle makes you sink while fat makes you float. However, like I said, I know several who have gone against the stereotype.

Thankfully times are changing but up until recently a lot of black people came from poverty. They didn't exactly grow up in neighborhoods with security gates and homeowners associations. Pools, no matter what your race, are expensive to own and a luxury to live near.
So they didn't generally grow up swimming or teaching their kids or grandkids to swim. One of the biggest issues for black people and swimming pools is the damage it causes to their hair. It takes a lot of work to them to keep their hair nice whether they use a relaxer or not. Swimming destroys it.
Naturally if they are a guy and they shave their head - no problem.

Yes.
Always refuse help from a black lifeguard because he or she will cause you to drown. As you know, ALL white people can swim perfectly, so wait for a white lifeguard.
Please, Higher Being, help everyone with a brain to stop making generalizatons about groups of people based on their race.
Its becoming more than a little tiresome.
Thanks.

Actually, colour has no bearing on the sport. For example, when Ian Thorpe wore that black adidas swimsuit he was capable of breaking world records. I think this speaks volumes for the negative.

No it is not true. Swimming ability isn't affected by race, or size. It is affected by how much practice you get and how hard you work at leaning how to swim.
