The best way to work ALL of your throwing muscles.. is to throw a ball. Practice makes perfect. Im not too sure exactly what muscles are used but im assuming they are deltoid, tricep, bicep, and forearm for a good grip.

Developing arm strength for throwing a FB is different than a pitcher in baseball where you can increase velocity with a strong leg drive. The QB must be able to throw on the run, back peddling and flat footed. Sure the legs can help you unleash the long one farther when you can set up and air it out, but that's not what's most important or the most difficult to develope.

The drill you're looking for is to throw the the ball from your knees. Face your target. Shoulders and knees sqare to it. When throwing point your left shoulder at the target then rotate to open up back to square as you throw ( Don't forget to follow through) keeping your keens still. Move you target back as you get stronger.

Work on your forearms and pay close attention on flexibility of your throwing arm and shoulders. Work on your fundamentals of pulling the strings when holding the f-ball closest to the rear as possible. Or better yet take the average weight of the ball times it by 3 and that should be your max to work out with until your muscles fail on your bicep & tricep "no more" you should be alright. The forearms are being worked indirectly so leave forearms work-out on a different/separate day with the same formula as bicep and tricep. Try this in the offseason without attempting to throw a single ball until actual football practice. Try bicep/tricep once a week with one day rest and forearms twice a week with a minimum of one day rest. You should be alright good luck.

I am a college quarterback and the only way to get more distance on your throws is to play long toss and other drills. Here is a progression to do with a friend:
1. Sit up on both knees 5 yds from partner, throw to loosen up arm, exaggerate the shoulder turn and the follow through
2. Stand with feet pointed at partner 10 yds away, continue to loosen up shoulder by working on shoulder turn and follow through.
3. Move to fifteen yds away and practice throwing on a line after a three step drop.
4. Continue to move away from your partner with a three step drop until your arm feels fatigued then gradually move closer until you back at 10 yds away.

You got to do that or some variation every day. It is important to throw on a line for much as possible.

Lifting weights does halt your growth, anyway lat pull downs and shoulder workouts helps with strength and throwing power. I know because i played QB and had a stronger are as i got older and knew more about lifting and eating properly.

You young, so I would advise you to do push-ups for your upper body and crunches, and for lower body basically run track, duck walk, and squat. If you have access to weights, bench-press, curls, and squats but start with light weight and work your way up. When you get to HS, your coach will put you on a work out program.

ok, what you wanna do is get started easy with some push ups, situps, and some DB stuff (DB bench, DB curls etc.) then, you wanna go and start on some heavy lifting. But dont go and do too much on a bench press cause it'll stunt your growth. if you want to, you can also do crunches, pullups and leg press to add more speed, and be able to shake off tacklers

Concentrate on shoulders and triceps. Pushups are good for both.

Doing arm extensions with light weights may help you be able to throw longer passes.

Work on your upper body. But do not lift too heavy of a weight or else you will ruin your height.
