Fungi have a long history of use by humans.
Many types of mushrooms and other fungi are eaten, including button mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, and oyster mushrooms. Of course, many species of mushrooms are poisonous and are responsible for numerous cases of sickness and death every year.

A type of single-celled fungus called yeast is used in baking bread and fermenting alcoholic beverages

mycelial fungus is used to make Shoyu (soy sauce) and tempeh.

Fungi are also used to produce industrial chemicals like lactic acid, antibiotics and even to make stonewashed jeans.

Some types of fungi are ingested for their psychedelic (psychoactive drugs whose primary action is to alter the thought processes of the brain)properties, both recreationally and religiously

We salute thee lowly fungi.
Thy mushrooms excite the taste buds
with many a selection of species and many a way of preparation.

Thy yeast convert sugar to the wonderous
brew that comes in 3 general flavors,
beer, wine, and booze. They raise the flour and water so we have our bread and rolls.

You cause death and suffering with some of
your kin, but others guard the front line of
infection as our antibiotics.

The guardians of the woods feast upon the dead vegatation so the space between the sprounting trees is not clogged with their mothers and fathers.
I think you get the idea.

fungi are beneficial to algae and trees too...when fungi and algae, specifically cyanobacteria, combine, they form a lichen, which is a symbiotic relationship. when fungi and tree roots combine, they form mycorrhizae, through which both the fungi and the plant can benefit from.
