You use the heel of your picking hand to slightly press against the strings (near the bridge of the guitar), enough to create a slightly muted sound, but not enough to completely deaden the sound of the string.

At the end of you guitar (right benieth the hole) is your bridge. (it's where the strings come out). To palm mute hold your hand gently over the strings just above your bridge and strum. That's how... the question is what is it. Try it and find out. You'll have fun with it.

You rest the side of the palm of your pick hand lightly on the strings while playing...takes a little practice but well worth the effort.
