Never break up a weak acid in a net-ionic equation:

HC2H3O2 + NaOH --> NaC2H3O2 + H2O

The net ionic equation would be

HC2H3O2 + OH- --> C2H3O2- + H2O

Acetic acid (ethanoic acid) "eth" 2 carbons "oic acid" OOH combination CH3CHOOH An acid is neutralised by the formation of water. the resulting is usually in the form of ions. (CH3CHOOH) + (NaOH) -> (CH3CHOO-) + (Na+) + (H2O)
