Not to sound repetative but he could eat pretty much anything ground up. If you are still afraid of him choking there is this thing (I don't remember what it is called) at Babies-R-Us that might interest you. It is hard to explain but I'll try... It has a handle and a net that screws on it, you put stuff in to the net like fruit and different things and then they get the taste of it along with very small pieces but the big pieces stay in the net so they don't choke. It is a very nice and handy thing to have although it can get messy depending on what you put in it!

here is the link to the page at babiesrus.com the thing I am talking about is in the top middle. The Baby Safe Feeder, there are also different food grinders on this page.

He's basically ready for grown up food, (within reason of course) just cut into very small pieces. If he is consistanly choking on food, and you are positive that the pieces are small/ soft enough, then you should ask your doctor.
If he has teeth, don't even bother soaking his Cheerio's or other smallish cereal, he will gum them until they are soft and could probably use the practice chewing and swallowing.
Incidently, to cut up food easier...try using a pizza cutter rather than a knife/fork...makes things faster and easier

It has been a long time since my daughter was little, shes in college now, but her absolute favorite was- really- tofu, the extra firm- cut in cubes and to dip in catsup. i made little walls and designs with it as she got older and could appreciate. i would be careful if you child has allergies, as tofu is a bean product which many might have trouble with...I also had a baby food grinder- whatever i was eating i would grind some up and put with some formula and it was Gone! just as long as it is something your dr says he is ready for, go for it. frozen carrot sounds like a choking hazard, id stick with soft things. sweet potato, fruits except tropical this young etc can all go into grinder, later as finger food... get some library books too... I started with cheerios cut into half, pieces of banana, small pieces of steamed squash, etc. Just make sure everything is smaller than a pea. Make sure all veggies are cooked well and soft. You can definitely start with table foods after one month. Just make sure all mealtimes are supervised. Don't worry, your fear is normal I felt the same way. Your baby will be fine and mealtimes are about to become a lot more fun. We love to share our food with our son, he looks so proud when he eats mommy and daddy's food. Good luck!

Try Frozen Banana, Just a warning though they are VERY messy, My son loves them though. I have a big fear of him chokeing so I feel like he never gest to eat anything fun, However the bannan smashes as it thaws, it is soo great for teething. Other then that I have stuck with Cheerios n crackers for now. Good luck!

Have you tried unsalted soda crackers, arow root cookies, small pieces of bananas, small pieces of toast, plain noodles (nothing on them), small pieces of cooked potatoes, rice or chicken soup made from scratch (no salt)
These are some foods that I have tried with my 9 month old. Just don't go too fast too soon!
Your little one is still getting enough nutrience from his formula and his baby food! Just add a bit to keep it a little more interesting for him!
Best of luck

The only required food for an infant under one is formula or breast milk. Having said that I feed my 8 month old anything mashed up except eggs and and anything with cheese or honey. She even eats ground beef and smashed chicken.

Our baby at the same age took to canned mackerel that comes in these nice holdable chunks. He never let us put a spoon in his mouth, he will only feed himself, so maybe your baby will like food he can fork into his mouth himself like fish. The fish is flaky too, easy for him to eat. Only drawback is we end up with one stinky baby - and then if his diapers are soiled while he downs the fish, the stink will knock you out. Ours also loves Spanish tortilla (an egg & potato mix), another bland, healthy, & holdable food he just loves. That's all our baby likes at 1 yr old, and all he eats other than formula. I hear babies expand their palate at their own pace & you shouldn't push it.
