Can't remember an anime movie's name?

Question

I have been trying to remember the name of an anime movie I once saw and I have exhausted all of my ideas on finding it. It starts off with this boy who is trying to make a glider to escape his home, which is some sort of flying tree island place, when it is destroyed by a gigantic airship. The boy escapes and joins up with a group trying to destroy the airship and he becomes a glider, then a biplane pilot, and finally uses a rocketship created by the group's old mechanic, and the one who orginally created the airship. any help will be very welcome

as I said in the top part, the main character is a boy.

some additional info: during the course of the movie, his best friend that he met on the ship is killed while the friend and boy accidentally are locked in a turret of the group's airship and the friend is killed. He also helps attack pirates while he is a glider(also the glider he uses after he joins the group, are big wing like things that are attached to his arm.)

It sounds a lot like Elreka7!!!!
they have gliders and the main characters is a boy and he joins a group of gliders.The boy's name is Renten and Elreka is the girl with blue hair!!!

That wouldn't happen to be "Ar Tonelico"? It's an OVA. I saw it quite awhile ago. It somewhat fits your description:
