The Japanese Youth Mecca is Harajuku in Tokyo. Japanese young people gather there regularly in crazy costumes, but Sunday night is the busiest. There's also a bunch of great shops in the area too.

P.S.: Sloane is an idiot. I've lived in Japan for 5 years and no one has been anything but really nice to me. In general, Japanese people think western foriegners are cool. In fact the only people who seem to have a rough time in Japan are from other asian countries, China and Korea in particular.

the only different place i will think of of is Gion in Kyoto, Japan's final geisha district. If it sounds well-known, this is with the help of the fact this is the placing for "Memoirs of a Geisha". Troll around there lengthy adequate & you will at last see a geisha or a maiko (apprentice geisha). merely be attentive to which you would be able to no longer bypass to any geisha events - they're very unique & women people in many circumstances are not allowed. EDIT: Judging with the help of the question, i might say she's already there, so distinctive those techniques of issues to think of roughly before are somewhat late. And who're you to sentence them? they're accessible in Japan, residing their dream and enjoying the country the main suitable way they be attentive to how. they would not be attending seminars on the end result classic patriarchial gender roles have on cutting-area eastern business enterprise structuring, yet, considerig how distinctive you moan approximately how annoying it rather is to stay in Japan as a gaijin and how racist eastern everybody is, it sounds he's/she's having a helluva lot greater effective time than you probably did. as nicely, they asked approximately eastern pop way of life (which includes anime, like it or no longer) no longer "the place am i able to discover that stuff that one and all eastern everybody is obviously into because of the fact I observed it on T.V.?"

Shibuya (渋谷) in Tokyo is the place to be for the younger generations in Japan. For anime, videogames and electonics Akihabara (秋葉原) is a must go. Also check out Kabuchiko in Shinjuku for the host/hostess bars, a japan only scene.

Shibuya is the pop culture center for Tokyo. In my 3.5 years in Tokyo, I have had a wonderful experience. You have been invited to experience Tokyo.

I take it you don't live there. Even out in the countryside, pop culture is hitting you in the face. You'll enjoy it for a few weeks, then ignore it.

Ueno is a great choice, with the zoo, museums, and a big park it´s easy to go there!
I agree with David about Sloane, Japanese people are just too kind with foreigners.

Shibuya and Harjuku, without a doubt. Sundays they all gather in their Goth outfits and hang out.

I have a surprise for you....
Asians do not like foreigners.
Why else do you think that Eastern Asian countries are so unmixed?

You have been warned.
