i want to password protect and or encrpyt soem information on my computer so otehr users cant see it. how do i do that?

Yes, you can encrypt files in Windows XP using EFS, but I believe this functionality is ONLY included in Windows XP Pro, and not in Home Edition.

If your operating system doesn't support EFS (i.e. you're using XP Home Edition), you might still be able to restrict access to the files...see here:

If you are on windows 2000 or XP, you can encrypt your folder (and all files in the folder) or any file.

R-click the folder (or file),
click 'Property'
click 'Advanced'
check the 'Encrypt contents to secured data' box
click OK and follow instruction

However, the problem is that you can't backup the file. I am looking for a way to just password protect the file. Does anyone know how?

but windows havent any software for this function
you must download wingaurd
its safe and easy to use
