It stores them in a directory at

C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\Favorites. They are stored as links to the pages, usually .htm or html extensions.

The icon has an IE in it. They are in .html shortcut files. They are located in:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME\Favorites

netscape uses .html and ie uses .htm
