You know how the media or even society tends to dramatize everything? How do they dramatize where you live? For example, I've lived in Miami, fl and now I live in Orlando, Fl. The biggest misconception here is that it's like paradise: sunny weather all the time and nothing but waves and surfer dudes, and fun parks everywhere you turn.....NOT! So give me some examples!!

Miami's ok, but the beaches are ALWAYS fricken crowded with lowlives, there are barely any "hot supermodel" guys or girls, people are rude, and it's dirty.
Orlando sucks. There's no night life, people ARE pissy all the time, crime rate is pretty high, the weather is completely unpredictable(hot, cold, hot cold, rainy, dry)

I'm from Southern CA and a lot of people seem to think everyone there is rich and that it's a tropical paradise. The truth is that there are A LOT of very poor people living in SoCal and it's NOT tropical- it's a desert!
I've lived in New Orleans for just a few months and the misconceptions here are really interesting. People from outside the area tend to think everything is fine here now. That is not the case. Very little has changed in the past year and a half (since Hurricane Katrina). At least 1/3 of the people have still not returned home!
Many people who live here and suffered a lot of damage during Katrina are now of the belief that the city should already be rebuilt. The devastation was so vast that over 80% of the city was flooded. President Bush refused the UN's offer for assistance. There is so much corruption in the governement down here that there's been very little mobilization of resources. But some of the people who grew up here don't seem to realize what it takes to rebuild an entire city. They have forgotten to look beyond their own street. I had never been anywhere before where there were just as many misconceptions from the inside as there were from the outside, not until moving to NOLA.
One other thing, NOLA is now the murder capital of the country, so a lot of people who come to visit worry about their safety. I feel just as safe here as I do anywhere else.

Same here.
British Columbia.
It is becoming less "SuperNatural" by the minute.
They do not show the underside of the weather, the huge number of homeless people on the streets downtown. It is like San Francisco was 15 years ago. The situation is not getting any better at all either.

I live in Fairfield County, CT. The richest, per capita in the nation! Fact is, there are more deadbeats and trailer trash than rich people. I also work in one of the richest towns in Ct and the natives of that town couldn't really be more lower class. Funny how every time I travel, far away from here but in the U.S., people are always friendlier and kinder.

I live in Okinawa, Japan. I think the misconception about Japanese people is that they're all super smart... well, they probably are, but they're idiots on the road. They probably think us military people from America are CRAZY... they ALL drive like 80 year old grandmas... "drives" me CRAZY!
It is true that they eat rice everyday - even for breakfast... and they like raw meat including squid. Eew... AND - they're all super model skinny.

Orlando Florida is full of road rage maniacs. Even the women there are pissy and honk at you if you don't go 20 MPH over the speed limit.

Louisville Kentucky - People tend to think that it is full of redneck, inbreed, uneducated people. This is not true. Also, it is not some beautiful open country horse/farm land like people think. It is mostly full of highways and congested city's.
