Are we really looking for something better? Or is it something we can't have and thats Why we want it? Or maybe we think and tell ourselves we don't want it or need it but are still drawn to it as we are not being honest with ourselves...

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

I shall answer with a quote: "General envy constituting itself as a power is the disguise in which greed re-establishes itself and satisfies itself, only in another way. The thought of every piece of private property as such is at least turned against wealthier private property in the form of envy and the urge to reduce things to a common level, so that this envy and urge even constitute the essence of competition. Crude communism is only the culmination of this envy and of this levelling-down proceeding from the preconceived minimum. It has a definite, limited standard. "

In other words, superiority in its time and place has a symbol or logo, i.e. culture. What your question seems aimed is what is true competent Will. It is the Will that is not over ruled by its accompanying Judgment in the individual that is free from fear oppression and destruction for the essentially positive, beauty, love, peace and so forth... Fear is that constituent of Spirit for the Judgment which destroys all. Judgment in envy is anger not knowing why the self is not so endowed or knows not what that endowment is to be for a self worthy of such love, beauty or some other value. Self worth and worth of other is then not known as certainty but reputation of word, or that which is known certainly is not understood as superior.

If you are content with what you have, that's why. You can still look to something better, but if you're happy with what you have, or afraid to change it...than it's not only a matter of if you don't want it, but you may believe you can't have it even though you may be able to, while you continue to look at the bright side.

"How do we begin to covet? We covet what we see every day." Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs.

We covet the things we see and like every day: If we see someone with better hair, clothes, shoes, spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, cars, etc. we secretly wish we could have those things. Society has conditioned us to "upgrade". Always looking for better stuff, better situations, better jobs, etc. We have a covetous nature. Especially Western society. Everything we see on TV is about upgrading...better toilet paper, hair products, cars, homes, furniture....blah, blah, blah.

Looking to something better even if we don't want it ... hmmm puzzling... we always see room for improvement as human beings. that's the reason for inventions, we crave improvement in everything but improvement for one thing me also lead to disintegration to another.
