I know that on the wii you can put in GameCube memory cards. What are on the memory cards? Can you actually download GameCube games onto the memory card, and use them in the Wii without putting in the GameCube game? And if yes, do you need a GameCube to do that.

If you can only save progress, why would you want to do that anyway?

the gamecube memory card slots are just for saving games when the Wii is in GameCube mode (you are playing a gamecube game) because the Wii is designed to transform into a Gamecube...all the system specs change to match that of a GameCube and it creates a virtual GameCube BIOS so all the GameCube games see is a Gamecube, they have no idea that they are in a Wii so it is unable to save to the Wii system memory or SD slot. Gamecube games will not be available for download through virtual console

From everything I've read and my experince owning a wii, the only reason for a game cube memory card on a wii is backward compatiblity. You can save gamecube games onto the game cube memmory cards. At this time I've heard no plans for downloadable game cube games. The wii plays the discs thought.

As far as saving games and other downloadable programs I'm pretty sure you need to use the Wii's internal memory or an SD card.

The only thing you can do with the memory cards is play games that youve saved onto it, whether it be old gamecube games on your Wii, or new gamecube games on your wii, its basically specialized for gamecube games and basically thats it...

Yes, a Gamecube Memory Card is required to save your gamecube data on your Wii. This is simply because the files are way too big to store on the Wii's internal memory. I don't recommend buying anything other than a GC Memory Card to store your GC memory. Those Wii memory expansion objects don't look legit...

-Na, the cards only save your progress in the game, not the actual game, so you have to put in the gamecube game that you want to play and the memory card.
-There's no way to download games onto the cards,
-it would be really cool if you could, but then the videogame industry wouldnt make any money.

Although I'm not sure (someone will have to back me up on this) I believe the Wii uses an SD memory card to save things. In this case, you can get a generic, SD card and plug it into the memory slot (Maybe in the contoller? Maybe in the base? I'm not sure) and then it can read the data off of it and odds are play games.
