i just feel like if politicians didn't believe all that stuff in the bible about how " marriage should only be between a man and a woman" that gay marriage would be allowed everywhere. i feel like the bible is the only thing stopping them from approving it. what other reasons do they really have?

I think it's more like "why oh why are over-religious people out of control in america?"

First off the least-sin remark by Die Gays is so off base, the gov't is already the most corrupt thing on the planet. Money talks and the more of it you have the louder your voice is. So as long as the old school hypocrites have the loudest voices we are doomed. And for the record I am heterosexual and consider my self an atheist because I don't attend a church or believe in God. I wonder how Die Gays would feel if there life depended on a lesbian or homosexual to perform CPR. I will stop now, don't want to sound like a zealot.

Ignorance. People give the church hundreds of billions of dollars that they intern get to keep TAX-FREE. The bible is just a fantasy book . It's not stopping anyone from doing anything...It can't. Bigots, on the other hand, can stop equality. A SELECTIVE reading of the bible just gives them justification. Come to think of it, I could use the bible to justify about anything.

70% of americans believe in god and feel that god/religion is an important part of there life, therefore, sadly, they will naturally vote in politicians who share these same views..

at least up here in canada, the number is only 50%, but still not enough to allow openly LGBT people to get elected into office.

i hope to play a small role in changing this. i'd love to see more LBGT folks in government, and they can prove to the entire world that they have nothing to be afraid of..

Actually that is the reason that all those anti-gay laws will eventually be overturned. There is no legal basis for discriminating against homosexuals when religious arguments are rightly discredited. there is no requirement for fertility, for the ability to procreate, or to have children. The Fundies attempting to force people to live by their religious doctrine by illegally forcing it into laws will eventually be overturned as unconstitutional.

Who says that not accepting gay marriage is a religious issue? I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of athiests and agnostics that wouldn't condone gay marriage.

It's not just because of religion.
I mean, religion is a factor, but even if it weren't in the Bible, I bet there'd still be homophobes just because people tend to dislike things that are different than what they feel or believe.
There are Christians out there that have no problem with homosexuals and there are non-Christians who are horribly homophobic.

Different sects may hate each others guts, but they find enough "similarity" to present a front in public.

They're not over religious, but most of the people who vote for them have religion, so they don't want to step on those voters toes. Don't they have the pledge of alligiance where it says "In GOD and country we trust"? (Note which comes first)
