EPA. Proposed a guaranteed minimum income for all US citizens. I'm not a Nixon fan, but compared to what we have now he looks pretty good.

There's a big difference between a minimum wage and a minimum annual income.

Correction: Nixon proposed a "negative income tax" similar to the anemic earned income credit we have now. The idea of a guaranteed minimum income is that all adults would have a minimum income regardless of how much they worked. Any income derived from employment would supplement, not replace the minimum guaranteed. Brazil is gradually putting this idea into practice.

Nixon was so paranoid that the democrats would take the White House when his term was over that he tapped their phones and then resigned in shame before he could be impeached for it, he wasn't a liberal. I don't consider minimum wage to be such a liberal concept (as opposed to say welfare).

Added:

You didn't specify that in your question. Plus, there's not really a difference. Assume a person works a regular 40 hour week and the minimum wage is 5.50 and hour. If that's the lowest a person can be paid, that leaves a minimum annual income of $11, 440 before taxes.

A minimum annual income makes no sense, since many people, such as seniors and mothers choose to work part time. Does this minimum annual income mean that someone who chooses to work 20hrs a week should make the same in a year as some one who choses or has to work 40?

I find it amusing that somebody considers Nixon a liberal. I always liked him and I like Bush, too. I think compared to what we got after Ford, even Kerry would look good.
