How does a K&N airfilter claim that it increases the horsepower by 10 to 15 percent and don't read me the anwser off the back of your K&N airfilter box? The more air flow the better right? So why not just remove the filter all together? Just wondering what other peoples thoughts are on this. And yes, I know it's not reccomended to remove the air filter from your car.

Ahh the little secret about the k&n filters, they do increase mileage and power and so forth, but do you know how the do it? Lets start by explaining the way they measure a filter. All filters strain out particles( air, water, oil.....)these particals are measuerd in microns, and the smallest micron the filter can strain is the micron count of that filter. The bigger the micron count the bugger the particals allowed to flow through them. The k&n filter has a lager micron count over oem. Hence its letting more particals flow through it. Now the oil on the surface has allowed for a little leeway by causeing some of the particals to stick to it, hence the "k&n cleaning solution". So to answer your question no filter will create more power over a k&n. But with no filter thats very risky. I wouldn't even run a k&n, however i drive on alot of dirt roads from time to time. But if you don't drive in dusty type areas i would say go for it.

it just claims 10 to 15 % over a stock airfilter. which is paper and restrictive. The only hp that is increased is from the improved air flow into the intake..no air filter is only recommended for drag racing. running with no filter would get dust, dirt into the motor which will cause scratches in the cylinders and youll lose power and oil.

You need a filter to trap dirt particles in the air so they don't get caught up inside your engine's moving parts, because that would over time score your engine's cylinder walls.

Don't care much for K&N, if for no other reason than they don't give you any instructions on how to wash / clean the filter, but an open cold air intake does help give a small increase in horses because usually the OEM filter's intake is so convoluted and restricted that air can't get through there efficiently. It's not so much the filter, but the housing and the hoses and everything the air has to get through, I never understood why manufacturers don't produce a better for air flow designed housing, but that's the key more than the filter itself.

i own a shop, and actually running a K&N filter will produce more power than running nothing on it,there has to be a certain amount of back pressure, and resistance in anything for it to function right, but id run the k& n filter in it to get the most from it,and this helps keep all the dirt out of the engine also, good luck i hope this helps.
