There are no gas AC units out there. There is a unit that is a combination of Electric AC and gas furnace for heat. Those are common. You can get the number off of the side of the unit and the model and look on the Net. It will be there and explain everything about it.

The last gas units were tested and put into expermental service about 10 years ago by a StJoseph Michigan company working with the Dept of Energy . Those have all been recalled. They used an amonia system and an ethylene glycol exchanger into the home.

Most likely electric. On the side of you house by the condenser, there will be a grey disconnect box with flexible conduit out of the bottom going to the condenser. This is 220 Volt. Some units from the 60's were gas, most have long been replaced.

a/c is electric
heat is gas, or electric - if you turn on the heater & you see a glow followed by a woosh ( ignore the fan noise & no light in the attic to see the glow better ) - gas
