think it was like a way to send a message to her true love. telling him she is back, and ready to be with him. it was like fate led rose back to that place, so that she could be with him once again. she has returned her heart back to the ocean

I always thought it was a highly romantic moment, then I get really mad. Why couldn't she have given the diamond to the guy searching for it? He really needed it. She was so selfish. She had lived a full life and had all the fun that she and Jack talked about. Why couldn't she be a giving person and share her good fortune by giving it to the guy who was searching for it. It made her seem so self serving and indulgent.
Did you ever see the SNL parody of the Titanic? The crew ends up beating the old lady in order to ge the diamond. It kinda ruined the ending of the film for me. Whenever I watch the movie, the ending reminds me of that SNL sketch and I start gigling.
Still think Rose was selfish!

I believe the necklace always represented her feeling like a prisoner or a possession. After she was able to tell the story, she felt free, and threw the last of her shackles into the ocean with her true love, Jack.

Because, as she tells her story, she is finally liberated from the pain and the guilt at surviving the tragedy that claimed her lover's life. By returning the Heart of the Ocean back to the waters from which her love was born, she is coming full circle: letting go of the life that Jack purchased at the cost of his own, and ready to transcend into death: love in its truest form.

I was a way of letting go. Once she threw it in the ocean, she was able to pass away and be with her true love.

Because it represented her fiance and the search team was looking for it...so she thought if it was found her fiance would kind of "win"...I think she should have sold it...bu that would've canceled out the whole "winning" concept.
