I am on lo- estrin birth control. I have been on it for two months and have been on other hormonal birth control for a year before that. My boyfriend and i are careful. we either use a condom or pull out. we don't just rely on the birth control. however, I have been havcing many side effect from hormonal birth control. this month i had a bit of breakthrough bleeding as usual, nothing big. now i am supposed to get my period, it is my period week. i had a bit of spotting but didn't even need a tampon. now it's halfway thorugh the week and nothing. whereas i normally have a fairly considerable or heavy flow by now. I have a bit of mild cramping and wicked pms. i want to eat and crave chocolate. but no period. is this a normal side effect or should i be concerned? should i call my ob/gyn? or take a prego test in about a week if nothing? should i continue my birth control?

thanks, all.

Just call your gyno and see what they think you should do. It could be a reaction to the new pills. You could be pregnant. It might be another problem unrelated to either of these things.

It can be common to have just a little spotting in place of a period while on birth contol, but everyone's body reacts differently. I got pregnant while taking the pill and my husband and I were not prepared, so no one method is 100% reliable, especially "pulling-out" It only takes one little sperm to get pregnant, and even if he hasn't finished there's enough swimming around in there to get the job done, which is why you must call a gyn.

"pull out method" does not work.
you might need to change your pill. talk to your doctor. take a test. no birth control is 100% effective, especially if one is to "pull out".

if you are worried, see a doctor. i have known women who have conceived while on the pill, so check it out just in case
