you got it right, but if you think we can win there, think again.

"The best defense is a good offense?" You must be kidding, Steve M. "We have been at war with terrorists since the 1980s. We just didn't know it." Now I realize that it wasn't that you were kidding, you just didn't know any better. Foofight got a little closer to the real answer, but was just a little bit off. The REAL reason we have been at war in the Middle East for lo these many years has been, in fact, to protect our freedom--our freedom to use OIL. If you don't think I know what I am talking about, then read the book, "Oil: Anatomy Of An Industry", by Matthew Yeomans.
As far as making "the most of the situation" in Iraq, it distresses me to imagine just what the American people mean by that. Steve M's and Foofight's answers lead me to believe that a great many Americans are frighteningly uninformed about these most crucial topics, specifically the so-called War on Terrorism and the role of oil companies in the everyday lives of not only the American people but vast majorities all around the world. I urge everyone reading this to check out Mr. Yeoman's highly informative book. And, no, I am not working to promote the book. I am, however, working to promote useful information to my fellow citizens. Knowledge IS power.

Its so easy to say we shouldn't have gone to Iraq now, but after September 11th, 2001 everyone seemed to be all in for the idea. Thats because of the moral panic of terrorism that everyone experienced after the attacks...in other words, alot of ppl thought this could happen again if we didn't do something about it. Personally, I think going over there is the right thing to do. We have to protect our freedom anyway we can and a majority of Americans take their freedom for granted. I am never a big fan of wars, but some are necessary, and this is a war I support. We are actually doing a great job over there, but the left-side media makes everything seem worse, but thats their job. However, it would be nice to see more of all the great things we have accomplished so far. To say that its all hopeless would be an incorrect statement, because no matter who is in office, you should always expect that they are making the best decisions for their country not for their own political parties gains.

We made the right decision to fight in Iraq. The best defense is a good offense. We have been at war with terrorists since the 1980's. We just didn't know it. Investigate all the world bombings directed towards us for the last 2 decades and you will know that we are now doing what needs to be done. Terrorism will never be defeated. Just like traffic law violators. We must accept that right now and move on. We can though try to create climates around the world that are less habitable for these creeps. Uniting countries with free economic trading will work wonders for peace.
